Mwinyi Urges Global Status for African Quran Memorization Contest
Zanzibar President Emphasizes Quran as a Vital Legacy for Youth
Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has called for the African Quran Memorization Competition to be elevated to a global platform, recognizing its potential to gain international prominence.
Speaking at the event held at New Amani Complex Stadium in Mjini District, Dr. Mwinyi highlighted the significant progress achieved over the past two years since the competition's inception in Zanzibar. He noted that these accomplishments provide a strong foundation to scale the event to a worldwide level.
“The success we’ve seen over these two years makes a compelling case to elevate this competition to a global stage,” said President Mwinyi, stressing its growing importance not only as a religious initiative but also as a cultural and tourism showcase for Zanzibar.
Dr. Mwinyi underscored the competition’s role in promoting Zanzibar’s image internationally, strengthening African unity through shared religious practices, and fostering intercontinental cooperation.
He further praised the exceptional Quran memorization skills displayed by young participants, describing them as a valuable heritage for both current and future generations. He acknowledged the critical role played by madrasa teachers and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the continuation and growth of such events.
In addition, the president extended his congratulations to the Zanzibar Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) and the Office of the Grand Mufti of Zanzibar for successfully organizing the competition for the second consecutive year. He also expressed appreciation to all partners and stakeholders who contributed to making the event a success.
