Prime Minister Attributes Investment Growth to Economic Diplomacy
DAR ES SALAAM, February 25, 2025 — Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has credited the success in boosting trade and foreign investments in Tanzania to the diplomatic efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan. His comments came during a meeting with a delegation of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from the Committee on Cooperation and Development at his office in Dar es Salaam.
“President Dr. Samia has played a pivotal role in fostering relationships with international partners, which has greatly enhanced Tanzania’s global standing and opened new avenues for trade and investment,” Majaliwa remarked.
He highlighted that the European Union (EU) has been a key player in advancing Tanzania's trade and investment interests, with member states contributing significantly to various sectors. "Tanzania highly values its economic and democratic ties with the EU nations," the Prime Minister noted.
Trade relations between Tanzania and the EU have flourished, with European investors increasingly focused on sectors like agriculture, energy, mining, infrastructure, and tourism. Majaliwa expressed his appreciation for President Samia's efforts in strengthening these connections.
Meanwhile, Member of the European Parliament Barry Andrews commended Tanzania’s progress in improving its citizens' quality of life, particularly in healthcare, education, and infrastructure. "Tanzania has made remarkable strides in implementing international sustainable development agreements, especially in providing better healthcare and education,” Andrews said, emphasizing that the EU remains a critical partner in supporting access to quality services.
Andrews also noted that Tanzania has made significant strides over the past two decades in enhancing public services, including improved transportation infrastructure, which has played a role in spurring economic growth.
The 14-member EU delegation is currently on a three-day visit to Tanzania. During their stay, they will meet with government leaders, development partners, and individuals benefiting from EU-funded projects.
