U.S. Delegation Heads to Moscow for Ukraine Peace Talks as Putin Visits Kursk
A team of U.S. officials is traveling to Russia for discussions on a potential ceasefire in Ukraine, according to former President Donald Trump.
This development follows an agreement by Ukrainian officials to implement a 30-day ceasefire after a high-level meeting with U.S. representatives in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the decision now rests with Russia, stating, "This matter is in [Russia's] hands." He underscored that the United States views diplomatic negotiations as the only viable path to ending the ongoing conflict.
The U.S. diplomatic mission coincides with claims from the Kremlin that President Vladimir Putin has visited the Kursk region in Russia. The area, which has been under Ukraine’s control since last year’s invasion, remains a focal point in the ongoing war.
Following the Jeddah summit on Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asserted that the next step lies with the United States, urging Washington to convince Russia to accept the proposed ceasefire as a “positive” step forward.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin has indicated that it is reviewing the ceasefire proposal and has left open the possibility of direct communication between Trump and Putin regarding the issue.
