PM Majaliwa Launches Major Water Expansion Projects

PM Majaliwa Reaffirms Commitment to Water Network Expansion

TABORA – Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to implementing key development projects in line with the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party’s 2020-2025 election manifesto.

During his working tour of Tabora yesterday, the Premier underscored President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s dedication to expanding social services across the country. He laid foundation stones for two major water expansion projects—one extending the Lake Victoria water network from Ziba to Nkinga and another from Makomero to Mgongoro in Igunga District.

The Ziba-Nkinga project, valued at 2.49 billion Tanzanian shillings, is set to supply clean and safe water to approximately 32,979 residents. Majaliwa emphasized that the government is working relentlessly to ensure universal access to clean water, in line with its development agenda.

“This project is a direct implementation of CCM’s election manifesto,” he said. “Rest assured, President Samia is a leader who cares, listens, and works tirelessly to address your concerns. I urge everyone to continue fulfilling their responsibilities because we have strong and dedicated leadership.”

Call for Environmental Protection and Expanded Water Access

Majaliwa urged Tanzanians to play an active role in protecting the environment and water sources to ensure the sustainability of water supply systems. He further highlighted the government’s increased budget allocation to the Ministry of Water, facilitating the extension of water supply networks to underserved rural communities.

“The goal is to guarantee water access to every citizen, regardless of location,” he stated.

The Makomero-Mgongoro water project, costing 840.8 million Tanzanian shillings, is projected to serve approximately 5,400 residents. Currently, 80% complete, the project encompasses the construction and renovation of six water collection points, the restoration of two livestock watering troughs, excavation for pipe installation, and the coverage of 25,000 meters of water distribution trenches.

New Health Centre and Market Stalls Development

In another significant directive, the Prime Minister instructed the Igunga District Council Director to allocate 50 million Tanzanian shillings for the construction of a new health centre in Mwamayoka village. Majaliwa stressed the urgency of the project, citing the long distances residents must travel to access healthcare services.

“Construction must commence without delay. It is unacceptable for residents to walk approximately 20 kilometers to receive medical attention,” he asserted.

Additionally, Majaliwa inspected newly built business stalls constructed by the Igunga District Council and commended the initiative. However, he urged local authorities to establish a fair and efficient system for allocating stalls to traders, ensuring their intended economic benefits are fully realized.

“I commend the council for building these stalls. This is a significant step towards providing traders with secure business spaces. However, it is crucial to establish a fair distribution mechanism that maximizes the benefit for all traders,” he advised.

Minister of Water Pledges Continued Expansion

Accompanying the Prime Minister, Minister for Water Jumaa Aweso reiterated his ministry’s commitment to further expanding water accessibility across the country. He called on project supervisors to maintain transparency and fairness in water service delivery, urging them to prevent unjustified overcharging of citizens for water services.

“Our focus remains on enhancing access to water for all, and we will not tolerate any malpractice that burdens our citizens,” Minister Aweso emphasized.
