MCL is currently looking for a dynamic and experienced professional to join its team as a Senior Reporter for Mwananchi.

Position Overview

The Senior Reporter role requires a proactive journalist who can independently pursue assignments, uncover compelling stories, and produce high-impact news. The ideal candidate should have a keen eye for detail, strong research skills, and a commitment to factual and ethical reporting. This role demands the ability to deliver well-researched, engaging, and informative news content that aligns with MCL’s editorial objectives and house style.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and develop impactful news and feature stories with minimal need for revisions.
• Conduct field reporting, including interviews, fact-checking, and real-time coverage.
• Research and compile background information to ensure stories are comprehensive.
• Maintain strong relationships with news sources and follow leads for exclusive reporting.
• Provide regular updates to the News Editor and submit completed stories within deadlines.
• Build and expand a professional network of sources, consistently delivering unique and valuable insights.
• Respond promptly to breaking news while ensuring accuracy and journalistic integrity.
• Collaborate closely with photographers to enhance visual storytelling.
• Operate effectively both independently and under editorial supervision.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Experience: A minimum of 4-5 years of professional journalism experience.
