Geita Invites Stakeholders to Construct Permanent Exhibition Booths at Samia Grounds

The Geita Regional Commissioner, Martine Shigela, has announced that opportunities are now open for stakeholders to begin constructing permanent exhibition booths at the Samia Mining Exhibition Grounds in the region.

Speaking during a Regional Consultative Council (RCC) meeting, Shigela emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive to establish permanent infrastructure at the site.

During the closure of the 7th Mining Technology Exhibition on October 13, 2024, President Samia instructed regional authorities to coordinate the construction of permanent exhibition booths at the Bombambili grounds in Geita.

Reducing Exhibition Costs

Shigela highlighted that building permanent booths would significantly cut down exhibition preparation costs, which currently amount to TSh 300 million to 400 million annually due to tent rentals.

“To minimize recurring expenses associated with temporary exhibition setups, we have resolved—and were directed—to develop permanent infrastructure at our exhibition venue,” Shigela stated.

Stakeholders Encouraged to Confirm Participation

The Regional Commissioner further revealed that letters had been sent to relevant authorities, institutions, and private sector participants, inviting them to secure plots and commence construction.

“We have set March 31, 2025, as the final deadline for stakeholders to confirm their commitment to building permanent infrastructure at the exhibition grounds,” he announced.

For institutions or stakeholders that fail to confirm their participation on time, the allocation committee—comprising the District Commissioner, directors, and Members of Parliament—will reassign the plots to those ready to proceed with construction.

Strategic Planning and Budgeting

To facilitate the implementation of this initiative, Shigela instructed the Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) and the Geita Municipal Director to prepare a budget for the construction of permanent infrastructure at the site.

Geita District Commissioner Hashimu Komba elaborated on the funding strategy, explaining that the construction of permanent booths will proceed in two phases:

  1. Initial funds sourced from the 2024 exhibition revenues.
  2. Additional financing from willing stakeholders.

“We have designated specific areas for government institutions. I urge municipal directors and council chairpersons to allocate budgets accordingly when they return to their respective areas,” Komba stated.
