DAR ES SALAAM: Prominent Tanzanian politician and diplomat, Ambassador Dr. Getrude Mongella, has called on women across the country to unite in backing a female candidate in the upcoming October 2025 General Election. She emphasized that such a move would align with the goals of the Beijing Declaration, which advocates for increased representation of women in leadership.
“This time, let’s demonstrate that a woman can be elected. Regardless of personal opinions, our collective agenda should be to support a female leader,” Ambassador Dr. Mongella asserted.
She further stated, “I am heading to the United States with confidence alongside the leader, and I want to proudly declare that we are placing a woman in leadership. If we are determined, we women of Tanzania can collaborate with the government to break free from the cycle of dependency.”
Her remarks highlight the ongoing push for gender inclusivity in leadership, reinforcing the importance of women’s empowerment in Tanzania’s political landscape.
