Dar es Salaam: Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) has been honored with a prestigious award at the Rising Woman Awards, recognizing its significant contributions to promoting gender equality and inclusivity in the workplace.
This recognition reflects SBL's commitment to fostering an environment where women are empowered to actively participate at all levels within the company and beyond.
Elizabeth Muro, SBL's Director of Legal and Business Integrity, expressed, “Being recognized at the Rising Woman Awards is a testament to our ongoing efforts to champion gender equality. Over the past five years, SBL has made substantial strides in addressing gender disparity, particularly in male-dominated sectors such as brewing, logistics, warehousing, engineering, and sales.
In July 2020, the company set a target to improve its gender balance, aiming to raise the proportion of female employees from 17% to 31% by June 2024. As of February 2025, SBL has achieved a 36% female workforce and is on track to exceed 38% by June 2025.
SBL has made diversity and inclusion a core performance indicator, integral to its strategy for becoming one of the most trusted and respected companies in Tanzania.

In a push to accelerate progress, the company has implemented a robust hiring policy that mandates over 60% of new recruits be women. Additionally, hiring managers are encouraged to list female candidates for interviews, prioritize equally qualified women over men, and ensure that positions vacated by retiring or departing women are filled by other women.
Beyond recruitment, SBL nurtures female talent through specialized mentorship programs, leadership development, and international training initiatives.
SBL’s Project BLOOM, launched in partnership with Strathmore University, is designed to prepare high-potential female employees for senior leadership roles across Africa.
Moreover, SBL’s Future Leaders Program for business graduates proudly boasts 100% female participation in Tanzania, ensuring the cultivation of the next generation of female leaders.
