KKKT’s New Mwanga Diocese Bishop Set for July 13 Installation

Bishop-Elect Daniel Mono to Be Officially Installed on July 13

March 12, 2025

Mwanga, Tanzania – The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (KKKT) has officially announced that Bishop-elect Daniel Mono will be installed as the new Bishop of the Mwanga Diocese on July 13, 2025. His appointment follows the passing of the late Bishop Chediel Sendoro, who tragically lost his life in a road accident in September 2024.

Bishop-elect Mono, currently serving as the Assistant Bishop of the South Eastern Lake Victoria Diocese (DKMZV), was elected on March 10, 2025, during a special general assembly. The election saw overwhelming support, with Mono securing 127 votes, accounting for 96.2% of the total 132 ballots cast. Only five votes opposed his selection.

Ahead of the official installation ceremony, a consecration service to bless episcopal regalia will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 4:00 PM. The installation itself will take place at the Mwanga Cathedral, with church leaders, clergy, and dignitaries expected to be in attendance. The service will be led by the Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania.

Bishop-elect Mono’s Vision and Gratitude

Speaking to Mwananchi, Bishop-elect Mono expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Mwanga Diocese.

“I thank God for this divine calling. Bishop Sendoro accomplished so much in his time, and I am humbled to step into this role. I was not deserving, but by God's grace, I have been entrusted with this responsibility,” he stated.

He further urged the faithful in Mwanga to remain steadfast in their faith and commitment.

“God has a purpose for all of us. I encourage everyone to continue trusting, praying, and dedicating themselves to the mission ahead,” he added.

Election and Church Leadership

The electoral process was presided over by the Head of KKKT, Dr. Alex Malasusa, and witnessed by esteemed officials, including former Prime Minister Cleopa Msuya and Mwanga District Commissioner, Mwanahamisi Munkunda. The election was conducted in accordance with the church’s constitution and came six months after the demise of Bishop Sendoro.

Bishop Sendoro, who had served as Mwanga’s first bishop since the diocese’s establishment in 2016, passed away on September 9, 2024, in a tragic car accident at Kisangiro, Kilimanjaro. He had been driving a Toyota Prado when it collided head-on with a truck while returning home from Kileo.
