Parliamentary Committee Applauds Progress of Arusha Stadium Construction
Arusha, Tanzania – The Parliamentary Committee on Education, Culture, and Sports has commended the swift progress in the construction of the Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium in Arusha, which is currently ahead of schedule.
During an inspection visit on Thursday, Committee Chairperson Husna Sekiboko confirmed that the project had reached 33 percent completion, exceeding the anticipated 31 percent milestone for this stage. The stadium is set to be a key venue for the 2027 AFCON finals, underscoring Tanzania’s commitment to advancing sports infrastructure.
The committee urged the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports to sustain the current pace, ensuring the stadium meets both quality standards and the scheduled completion deadline.
“This project is truly impressive and highly satisfying, made possible through President Samia Suluhu’s financial commitment,” remarked Sekiboko. “No matter how skilled the contractor is, progress at this scale would not have been possible without the President’s substantial funding. We extend our gratitude to President Samia Suluhu for her unwavering support in the development of sports infrastructure.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, reaffirmed that construction progress stands at 33 percent, with completion scheduled for June 2026. He also revealed that the stadium will boast a 32,000-seat capacity and is designed to last 130 years, with planned renovations every decade to maintain its structural integrity.
The accelerated progress signals Tanzania’s growing investment in sports and cultural development, positioning the country as a major player in the regional and international sporting arena.
