Geita, Tanzania – A 24-year-old clothing shopkeeper, Abrahaman Habiye, has been missing since March 1, 2025, after reportedly being abducted by unknown individuals in the Nyankumbu area of Geita. Witnesses claim that he was handcuffed and taken away by individuals arriving in a white Toyota Land Cruiser with tinted windows, posing as customers.
The Geita Regional Police Command has confirmed the disappearance, stating that four suspects have been detained as part of an ongoing investigation.
Incident Details
According to reports, the assailants entered the shop under the pretense of shopping for clothes. However, they suddenly frisked Habiye, seized his mobile phone and wallet, restrained him with handcuffs, and forcibly took him away.
His mother, Mariam Juma, revealed that she was on a trip when she received a distressing call from her employee, Joseph Fabian, informing her of the abduction. Upon her return, she reported the case at the Nyankumbu Police Station and later filed an official complaint at the Geita Central Police Station on March 3, 2025.
“Ten days have passed without any word from my son. I have searched police stations, but he is nowhere to be found. I am pleading with law enforcement agencies to help me find him—whether alive or, if the worst has happened, at least recover his body,” she lamented.
Geita Regional Police Commander Safia Jongo confirmed that investigations are actively ongoing.
Previous Threats
Juma disclosed that her son had previously received threats over an alleged romantic relationship with another man’s wife. On December 15, 2024, while she was in Dar es Salaam, she was informed by a caller that a man had come to her store, accusing Habiye of having an affair with his spouse and threatening to set the shop on fire.
Upon returning to Geita, she confronted the accuser, who arrived at the store accompanied by six men armed with knives. One reportedly sharpened a knife on the floor, openly declaring an intent to kill Habiye. The man allegedly issued a three-month ultimatum for Juma to close the shop or risk seeing it burned down.
Despite reporting the threats to the police, no action was taken against those involved, according to Juma.
Eyewitness Account
Anastazia Isaka, a resident of Nyankumbu, recalled that on the day of the abduction, she was inside the store with Abdul, Habiye’s younger brother, when a customer entered to browse for trousers. Moments later, a white vehicle arrived, and a tall, fair-skinned man stepped into the shop, appearing to select clothes. Another dark-skinned man soon joined him.
Suddenly, the two men began searching Habiye, confiscating his phone and wallet before handcuffing him. A customer who was already in the store was also restrained. The assailants ordered them to remain silent and still, causing distress and fear.
The whereabouts of Habiye remain unknown as authorities continue their investigation. The family anxiously awaits updates, calling for swift justice and intervention to locate their missing son.
