Role Overview
In alignment with Nutrition International’s strategic objectives in Tanzania, the Supply Chain Officer (SCO) will work closely with key stakeholders under the guidance of the Senior Program Officer (SPO). The role involves providing technical and managerial support to Government Health Management Teams, healthcare providers at various levels, and other stakeholders to ensure the timely and effective delivery of Vitamin A capsules (VAC) throughout Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, quantification, and forecasting of Vitamin A capsule supply chain activities, ensuring smooth implementation and monitoring.
- Coordinate with the Ministry of Health (MoH) teams to develop detailed costed logistics plans for importing, transporting, storing, and distributing Vitamin A capsules.
- Maintain accurate inventory tracking to prevent stock shortages or wastage.
- Provide technical support and training to local health authorities and supply chain stakeholders on best practices for Vitamin A distribution.
- Assist implementing partners in preparing budgets and work plans for effective execution of NI’s direct delivery of Vitamin A capsule programs.
- Work with headquarters procurement teams to ensure timely and adequate purchasing of Vitamin A capsules and the smooth arrival of shipments.
- Collaborate with clearance service providers to ensure timely clearance, safe storage, and proper transportation of goods in compliance with temperature and storage requirements.
- Partner with government bodies and stakeholders to develop contingency plans for potential supply chain disruptions.
- Ensure compliance with national health commodity distribution regulations.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration with government agencies, UN organizations, and NGOs to strengthen coordination and enhance Vitamin A capsule distribution in Tanzania.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Procurement & Supply Chain Management, Pharmacy, Public Health (specialized in health commodities), or a related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Training in epidemiology, community health, and research methodologies is desirable.
- At least five years of experience in health commodities supply chain management, public health, or health system strengthening in Tanzania or internationally.
- Strong experience in program/project implementation, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation.
- In-depth knowledge of Tanzania’s health system is preferred.
- Excellent report writing and data management skills.
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication abilities.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
