Singida Coach David Ouma Highlights Azam, Tabora United as Top Rivals for International Spots

March 9, 2025

Singida Black Stars head coach David Ouma has identified Azam FC and Tabora United as his team’s primary contenders for a top-three finish in the Premier League. The race for the third position remains intense as teams vie for a spot in international competitions. Following a narrow 1-0 victory over Namungo, Ouma’s side remains in fourth place, with 44 points from 23 matches, just four points behind Azam, who sit in third place with 48 points. Tabora United trails by eight points.

Ouma made these remarks after his team’s impressive away win against Namungo, which maintained their hold on fourth place in the Tanzanian Premier League standings. Despite their strong performance so far, Ouma acknowledged the pressure from Azam and Tabora United, who are also pushing for international qualification.

"We’re in a good position with a solid points tally, but the competition is fierce," Ouma said. "Azam is just four points ahead, and if they play their cards right, they could pull further away from us. The same applies to Tabora United, who have shown great form in recent games."

He continued: "This is the final stretch of the season, and it's all about showing resilience. We have a strong squad and now is the time to prove it. Our players understand the club’s goals, and we will fight until the last drop of energy to achieve what we set out to do."

Ouma also expressed that while Singida Black Stars are aiming high, each match is a crucial step towards securing their spot in international tournaments. "Every game from here on out is like a final. Even teams like KenGold, who are at the bottom of the standings, will not be taken lightly. They still field 11 players, just like us, and their ambition can cause surprises," he added.

Concluding his thoughts on the league, Ouma emphasized the importance of consistency in the final rounds: "The competition is fierce, and no one can afford to drop points. Every match is an opportunity to secure a better position. Our players are ready, and we will give everything to achieve our goal."
