KenGold Prepares for Crucial Clash with Azam FC on April 4
KenGold aims to secure vital points against Azam FC to avoid relegation with only seven games left in the Premier League season.

KenGold Faces Crucial Test Against Azam FC in Fight for Survival
KenGold's survival in the Premier League hangs in the balance as the team has only seven matches left to determine whether they will remain in the top tier or face relegation to the Championship. Among these, four are home games and three are away fixtures. The team’s overall record since their promotion this season has been disappointing, with only a few bright moments.
KenGold's recent string of three consecutive draws in the league has left coach Omar Kapilima worried. In a statement to Mwanaspoti, Kapilima explained that he has had several talks with his players, emphasizing that a win over Azam FC is crucial to boost their morale and improve their standing in the league. He stressed the psychological effect the team's position at the bottom of the table is having on both the players and coaching staff.
Despite the team's struggles, Kapilima remains optimistic. He believes that if KenGold can secure three points in two or three consecutive matches, starting with the upcoming home game against Azam, it could provide the momentum needed to escape the relegation zone. He acknowledged the team's poor home and away record but noted that these statistics should not deter them from fighting for survival.
Currently, KenGold sits at the bottom of the Premier League table with just 16 points from 23 games, having won three, lost 13, and drawn seven. At home, they have won three games, lost three, and drawn five, while their away record is far worse, with no wins, two draws, and ten defeats.
The team is now preparing for their next crucial league match against Azam FC, scheduled for April 4, 2025, at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.
Kapilima also addressed the team's defensive struggles, noting that despite recent improvements in attack, the defense continues to leak goals. The coach, who joined KenGold on October 22, 2024, after replacing Fikiri Elias, aims to strengthen the defensive line, which has been a major point of concern. Under Fikiri, KenGold lost all three of their league matches, including a 3-1 defeat to Singida Black Stars, a 2-1 loss to Fountain Gate, and a 1-0 defeat to KMC.
KenGold's upcoming fixtures will be critical in their bid to maintain their place in the top flight and avoid relegation.
