Zanzibar Government Strengthens Education Sector with New Schools

The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has reaffirmed his government's commitment to strengthening the education sector, emphasizing that it remains a top priority. Speaking at the inauguration of three newly constructed multi-story primary schools—Chumbuni, Kidichi, and Abeid Amani Karume Primary School in Mwera—Dr. Mwinyi highlighted the administration's dedication to advancing education at all levels, from primary and secondary education to higher learning institutions.
Dr. Mwinyi stated that the government is focused on enhancing the education sector through infrastructure development, improved learning environments, and expanding access to quality education. He underscored the significance of education in driving progress across all sectors and reiterated that ongoing investments will ensure long-term educational improvements.
As part of these efforts, Dr. Mwinyi announced that the government will continue constructing multi-story schools in various locations. Additionally, measures will be taken to increase the number of teachers while improving their working conditions and remuneration to enhance their effectiveness in delivering quality education.
He further noted that all schools will be equipped with essential learning facilities, including laboratories, libraries, and computer rooms, ensuring students receive comprehensive and modern education. These upgrades will align with the government's vision of preparing students with the necessary skills and knowledge from an early stage.
Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Lela Muhammed Mussa, praised the ongoing education reforms, stating that they have contributed significantly to improving curriculum implementation and enhancing student performance.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Khamis Abdalla, provided an academic report on the construction of the newly inaugurated schools. He revealed that each school was completed at a cost of 4.5 billion Tanzanian shillings, featuring 29 classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and computer rooms.
With these initiatives, the Zanzibar government continues to prioritize education as a fundamental pillar of national development, ensuring that students have access to high-quality learning environments that foster academic excellence and innovation.
