New Ward to Be Constructed at Mirerani Health Center to Ease Overcrowding
March 12, 2025
Mirerani Health Center is set to receive a much-needed boost as a new ward for women and children, along with a doctors’ office and improved mortuary facilities, will be constructed to address the current issue of overcrowding. The facility, which serves residents from Simanjiro in Manyara, Arumeru, and parts of Kilimanjaro, has been grappling with a shortage of space, causing congestion among admitted patients.
The initiative is spearheaded by Sporah Mwakipesile, a key development stakeholder in Simanjiro, through Chusa Mining LTD. Mwakipesile made the pledge after visiting the health center and witnessing firsthand the challenges posed by inadequate medical infrastructure.
Commitment to Community Healthcare
Speaking on the planned improvements, Mwakipesile stated:
“My family and I, through Chusa Mining Limited, are committed to constructing and handing over two wards for women and children, a doctors’ office, and an upgraded mortuary. Since our company operates in the Tanzanite mining sector in Mirerani, it is crucial for us to contribute to improving healthcare services in the community. We are not donating funds; instead, we will directly build the facilities and hand them over once completed. Construction is set to commence on Monday.”
Beyond healthcare, Mwakipesile also extended support to Songambele Primary School, which caters to children with special needs. She donated 60 beds, 120 mattresses, and 10 wheelchairs to improve conditions at the school.
Encouraging Collective Support
Mwakipesile urged other community members and businesses to join the cause by contributing essential materials such as bed sheets, while Chusa Mining LTD remains committed to covering significant costs related to the ward construction and other enhancements.
Following this call to action, Endiamtu Ward Councilor Lukas Zacharia Chimba organized a fundraising drive for purchasing bed sheets for Songambele Primary School, successfully raising TZS 3.6 million. Additionally, Mirerani Ward Councilor Salome Mnyawi and her family contributed TZS 5 million to the initiative.
Justin Nyari, Director of Glisten Pre and Primary School in Mirerani, also pledged support by donating TZS 1 million towards purchasing bed sheets for the children at Songambele Primary School. He praised the government’s commitment under President Samia Suluhu Hassan to advancing community development across various sectors.
A Community United for Better Healthcare
Mirerani Town’s Community Development Officer, Floriana Mcharo, highlighted the significance of the contributions, particularly as they coincided with International Women’s Day, making it a momentous occasion for social progress in the region.
Resident Peris Mwanyika, who also donated TZS 1 million, emphasized the importance of community-driven initiatives to enhance service delivery.
Meanwhile, Simanjiro District Medical Officer Dr. Lengai Edward expressed gratitude to Chusa Mining LTD for its support, acknowledging that the health center has been struggling with limited space due to its extensive coverage of patients from different districts.
“On behalf of the Simanjiro District Council Director, we extend our sincere appreciation to Chusa Mining LTD for this noble initiative. This contribution will significantly improve the conditions of healthcare services at Mirerani Health Center,” said Dr. Edward.
With construction set to begin soon, the new facilities will provide much-needed relief to both medical staff and patients, ensuring improved access to quality healthcare in the region.
