Mourinho Dismisses Scotland Move, Focused on Turkey
ISTANBUL, TURKEY: José Mourinho, the renowned head coach of Fenerbahçe, has ruled out any immediate move to coach in Scotland, despite expressing interest in the future.
Ahead of their match against Rangers, Mourinho was asked whether he could see himself managing one of Scotland's top clubs, Celtic or Rangers. He acknowledged a strong desire to take up such a challenge eventually but stated that his current pride lies in his position in Turkey, where he is deeply committed to his role at Fenerbahçe.
The three-time English Premier League winner with Chelsea added that management requires loyalty, and while he is not currently seeking new opportunities, he would consider a move to Scotland later in his career.
"In the future, it’s possible, but for now, I’m not looking for a new job," he said.
This is not the first time Mourinho has been linked with a return to England or Scotland. In October 2024, he hinted that he might consider a move to England, specifically to Everton, who were contemplating parting ways with manager Sean Dyche at the time. He later dismissed these remarks, explaining they were made in jest. Nevertheless, many fans have expressed a strong desire to see Mourinho return to England.
"Scotland has a vibrant football scene. For me, it’s everything I love—passionate fans, big clubs, and a lively atmosphere. Playing in empty stadiums is not for me. Celtic and Rangers are huge teams with dedicated supporters, immense responsibilities, and great expectations," he shared about the prospect of managing in Scotland.
Mourinho's statements add to the ongoing speculation about his future career moves, but for now, his focus remains firmly on his work with Fenerbahçe in Turkey.
