Zelensky: Russia Must Stop Making ‘Unnecessary Demands’
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged European Union leaders to maintain pressure on Russia, insisting that President Vladimir Putin must halt "unnecessary demands" that prolong the war and begin honoring his commitments to the international community.
Speaking via video call during a summit today, Zelensky warned that Putin frequently makes declarations that become meaningless within hours. "At one moment, he makes a statement, and a few hours later, it no longer holds any significance," he said, emphasizing the need for continued global scrutiny and diplomatic pressure on Moscow.
The Ukrainian leader also reiterated that sanctions against Russia should remain in place until the country fully withdraws from occupied Ukrainian territories and compensates for the destruction caused by its aggression. "Sanctions must persist until Russia starts withdrawing from our land and fully compensates for the damage inflicted by its invasion," Zelensky stated.
His remarks come at a critical juncture as diplomatic efforts intensify to find a resolution to the prolonged conflict, with Ukraine pushing for firm international action to hold Moscow accountable.
