Tanzania and Denmark Launch 528.9m/- Initiative to Boost Disaster Preparedness
DODOMA, March 21, 2025 – In a strategic step toward strengthening national resilience against climate-induced threats, Tanzania has officially unveiled the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative, backed by a budget of 528.9 million Tanzanian shillings.
The launch ceremony, held in the capital city Dodoma, was presided over by Deputy Minister for Works, David Kihenzile, who emphasized the critical role of early warning systems in reducing the adverse impacts of natural disasters.
“The EW4All initiative is a vital step towards ensuring that our communities are well-informed and prepared for potential disasters. By investing in early warning systems, we are not only protecting our citizens but also promoting sustainable development,” said Deputy Minister Kihenzile.
The project seeks to develop a comprehensive early warning infrastructure to deliver timely, reliable information to communities vulnerable to hazards such as floods, droughts, and other climate-related emergencies.
The EW4All programme is a key component of Tanzania’s broader national strategy to bolster climate resilience and enhance disaster risk management across the country. It reflects the government’s growing recognition of the urgency to implement proactive, science-based approaches to disaster response.
Crucially, the initiative integrates modern technology with indigenous knowledge systems, aiming to create a well-coordinated network for hazard alerts and emergency communications.
In addition to infrastructure development, the project will place strong emphasis on capacity building, with planned training programmes for local communities and key stakeholders to ensure effective responses to early warnings and to encourage precautionary actions.
The initiative is being launched in partnership with the Kingdom of Denmark, which has extended support for several climate and development projects in Tanzania.
