TCRA Launches International Girls in ICT Day Celebrations with Empowering Training for Female Students
Dar es Salaam, March 16, 2025 – The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has commenced its International Girls in ICT Day 2025 celebrations by organizing a transformative five-day training program tailored for female students with special needs. The initiative, aimed at fostering digital skills and inclusivity, took place at Kijitonyama Science Secondary School in Dar es Salaam from March 10 to 14, 2025. The training sessions engaged students from Jangwani and Mbweni Teta Secondary Schools in an interactive, hands-on learning experience.
Engineer Mwanahamisi Suleiman, a key member of the event’s organizing committee at TCRA, emphasized the importance of the initiative. “The students have been actively participating in practical learning activities, generating ideas, presenting their concepts, and designing solutions to address community challenges using a user-centric approach,” she stated.
Expanding ICT Opportunities for Girls
This year, TCRA has broadened its outreach to encompass five distinct groups of female students in preparation for International Girls in ICT Day, which will be officially celebrated on April 24, 2025. These groups include:
-
Girls in early childhood education (kindergarten)
-
Primary school students

Secondary school students
-
Female students with special needs in secondary schools
-
University students
A Growing Movement for Gender Inclusion in ICT
Since the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) officially launched International Girls in ICT Day seven years ago, TCRA has successfully engaged and empowered more than 4,000 girls through various initiatives. The global movement aims to inspire and encourage young women and girls to pursue studies and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as well as actively participate in the ICT sector.
The program aligns with efforts to bridge the gender gap in the ICT industry and directly supports the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5, which focuses on achieving gender equality. By equipping young women with vital digital competencies, TCRA is contributing to a more inclusive and diverse technology-driven future.
