Maybelline New York to Train 1,000 Tanzanian Women in Makeup Artistry
DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – In a groundbreaking move to empower women and boost Tanzania’s beauty industry, Maybelline New York has launched an initiative to provide professional makeup artistry training to 1,000 Tanzanian women over the next three months.
The initiative, announced during an official launch event in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, aligns with the global beauty brand’s entry into the Tanzanian market. It seeks to equip women with essential skills in makeup artistry, business strategies, and product knowledge, helping them unlock new career opportunities in a rapidly growing industry.
Empowering Women Through Beauty and Business
Speaking at the launch, Victoria Karanja, General Manager of Maybelline’s Consumer Products Division, emphasized that the initiative extends beyond beauty—it is a mission to foster economic empowerment and create lasting opportunities for women and girls.
“Our entry into Tanzania is about more than makeup—it’s about driving economic empowerment and opening new doors for women,” said Karanja. “We aim to provide them with valuable skills that will have a long-term, positive impact on their lives.”
Over the coming months, the selected participants will undergo intensive training under the guidance of renowned local and international makeup artists. The program’s curriculum covers advanced makeup techniques, business strategies, and product expertise, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to either launch their own businesses, work in professional salons, or pursue careers in the entertainment and beauty sectors.
A Vision for Financial Independence
Karanja further highlighted that the long-term objective of the initiative is to cultivate financial independence among Tanzanian women, equipping them with the tools to thrive in one of Africa’s fastest-growing industries.
“We believe this program will have a profound impact—not just on the participants but also on their families and communities,” she noted.
The initiative comes as Tanzania’s beauty sector experiences rapid growth, offering significant employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. With industry experts providing hands-on training, Maybelline’s program is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of beauty professionals in the country.
