Prime Minister Calls for Greater Collaboration to Achieve "One Book, One Student" Vision
Dar es Salaam, March 8, 2025 – Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has called on the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) to intensify its efforts in ensuring textbooks are available in every school across the nation. His remarks came yesterday in Dar es Salaam, where he led a charity walk and launched the 50th anniversary celebrations of TIE.
During the event, Majaliwa praised the institute’s progress in large-scale textbook printing, an initiative aimed at achieving the goal of one textbook per student. He emphasized that this effort would make a significant impact on the country’s education sector and contribute positively to the nation's development.
"We must all support this initiative wholeheartedly," said Majaliwa. "The goal of ensuring every student has access to their own textbook is crucial for our collective progress."
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the pivotal role of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in spearheading transformative changes within the education sector. He commended the President for the significant reforms she has implemented, which have contributed to the modernization and improvement of the educational system.
In addition, Majaliwa urged TIE to expand its efforts by collaborating with both private publishing companies and other stakeholders in the private sector. Such partnerships, he argued, could help lower the costs of printing textbooks and ensure a consistent supply across schools, thus helping to address existing shortages.
“The involvement of private sector partners will be essential to meeting the demand for textbooks, and it will help fulfill the goal of one book per student,” he said.
Highlighting the critical role of books as tools for learning and development, Majaliwa stressed that access to quality educational materials is key to achieving the country’s educational goals. He further linked the anniversary’s theme, "One Book, One Student," to Tanzania’s broader objectives of providing equitable and quality education for all its children.
"By prioritizing education, we are paving the way for the nation to achieve its sustainable development goals and improve the well-being of our society," Majaliwa concluded.
