The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the health and safety aspects of EACOP’s workforce, ensuring compliance with both Tanzanian and international health regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise the EACOP Medical Support Manager on health policies, medical laws, and regulations in collaboration with Tanzania’s Ministry of Health and other health bodies.

  • Serve as a full-time physician with a strong background in general practice, occupational health, and emergency care.

  • Assist in organizing medical evacuations (MEDEVAC), tailored to the capabilities of various medical facilities.

  • Liaise with medical teams managing hospitalized patients and coordinate with HR on issued Fitness Certificates for EACOP staff.

  • Support the 'Fitness to Work' program for employees and contractors, ensuring alignment with national occupational health standards.

  • Evaluate occupational health service providers in Tanzania to guarantee high-quality medical support for all personnel.

  • Contribute to health awareness campaigns and development of a proactive health culture across the organization.

  • Help establish and update EACOP’s Health and Hygiene Management System, covering areas such as malaria, pandemics, emergency preparedness, and mass casualty events, in line with global best practices.

  • Maintain relationships with health authorities and attend EACOP and external stakeholder meetings.

  • Oversee medical support infrastructure, including the coordination of contractors delivering medical services, hospital networks, clinics, emergency evacuation partners, and more.

  • Conduct assessments of medical facilities and assist with licensing, outbreak management, and regulatory cooperation.

  • Respond to requests for medical advice or emergency assistance from EACOP sites.

  • Be available on-call for urgent medical situations.

  • Supervise contractor medical facilities and medical personnel at project sites.

  • Aid in the development and regular update of health procedures and protocols.

Candidate Requirements

Educational Qualification:

  • Doctor of Medicine (BSc in Medicine)

Professional Experience:

  • At least 5 years in medical care or emergency response roles

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in tropical medicine and experience within African healthcare settings

  • In-depth knowledge of occupational health, fitness-to-work protocols, and Tanzanian healthcare laws

  • Broad clinical expertise, especially in remote medical care

  • Familiarity with international standards in medical response and care

  • Experience in the oil and gas sector is a strong asset

Behavioral Skills:

  • Ability to thrive in multicultural environments

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Competent in IT applications (Microsoft Office, SAP, Outlook)

  • Fluent in both English and Kiswahili (written and spoken)

Working Environment

This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring a safe and healthy workforce for the EACOP project, a significant transnational infrastructure development valued at $4.1 billion in capital expenditure. With up to 10,000 personnel operating across remote and high-risk areas in Uganda and Tanzania, the project demands exceptional health and safety oversight, particularly in areas of emergency response, pandemic preparedness, and MEDEVAC logistics.

The position involves coordination with national institutions such as TPDC, EWURA, and the Ministry of Health, and supports the broader implementation of the Health and Medical Management System across all project sites.
