Research Assistant – PartoMa Project (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania)

The Aga Khan University (AKU) is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to support the PartoMa Project in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This role involves vital research activities, including data collection, participant recruitment, and project coordination, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of research data.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree, diploma, or certificate from an accredited medical institution.
  • Qualified Nurse, Midwife, or Clinical Officer (one year of clinical experience is an added advantage).
  • At least one year of experience in clinical research, particularly in data collection, handling, and interviews.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili (written and spoken).
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to adhere to quality, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Strong teamwork, planning, and organizational abilities.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection methods.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Research & Data Collection:

  • Travel to field sites, recruit participants, obtain informed consent, and gather qualitative and quantitative data while ensuring accuracy, security, and ethical compliance.

Data Management:

  • Review, edit, and compile research data, following up as needed to maintain data integrity.

Interviews & Engagement:

  • Conduct face-to-face and telephone interviews, engaging clinical and community partners in research efforts.

Project Coordination:

  • Assist in preparing research materials, interview guides, reports, and presentations.

Meetings & Workshops:

  • Support planning and participate in research meetings, seminars, and training workshops.

Equipment & Supplies Management:

  • Request, maintain, and ensure the proper use of necessary project tools.

Training & Compliance:

  • Undergo training related to research ethics, data collection, and best practices.
