In celebration of International Women's Day on March 8, 2025, ACT-Wazalendo will host a special conference in Dar es Salaam, led by the party’s Chairperson, Dorothy Semu.
ACT-Wazalendo’s Secretary-General, Ado Shaibu, has taken a bold step as an ambassador, advocating for men to undergo breast cancer screening. He emphasized the necessity for the government to provide comprehensive breast cancer screening services at all health centers and local dispensaries.
Shaibu stated, "It’s futile to encourage people to undergo screenings without having the proper services available at lower levels. These services should be offered from dispensaries to health centers."
He highlighted that men need awareness about breast cancer, a condition that is often perceived as affecting only women. "One percent of those affected by breast cancer are men. It’s crucial for men to be aware of this, and today, I dedicate myself as an ambassador to promote breast cancer screening and encourage other men to participate."
During the event, Shaibu also visited various booths, including those focused on safe blood donation and women entrepreneurs. He expressed concern about the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, particularly in accessing markets and capital.
"Regarding the capital issue, the government must investigate the distribution of the 10% local government loans and the Tasaf Community Development Fund," Shaibu remarked.
Shaibu also heard about the urgent need for blood donations, especially for accident victims, pregnant women, and others in need. "ACT-Wazalendo is taking action to encourage blood donation among the public," he added.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the ACT-Wazalendo Women's Wing, Janeth Rithe, spoke about their unique observance of Women's Day. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about breast and cervical cancer screening.
"We have encouraged women to undergo screenings for cervical and breast cancer. Additionally, we've promoted blood donation and provided an opportunity for women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products. We have also offered entrepreneurship training today, which will later be extended to the grassroots level to empower women economically," Rithe concluded, reinforcing that ACT-Wazalendo is committed to taking tangible actions, not just issuing statements.
