ICTC Visits TanzTech Electronics Factory in Celebration of International Women’s Day
Arusha March 9, 2025
In honor of International Women’s Day, which was nationally celebrated in Arusha yesterday, Flora Salakana, the Head of Administration and Human Resources at the Information and Communications Technology Commission (ICTC), led a delegation of 10 women to visit TanzTech Electronics Limited, a local tech manufacturing company.
One of the driving factors behind this visit was the fact that 90% of the workforce at TanzTech is comprised of women, a notable achievement in an industry traditionally dominated by men.
After receiving a tour and briefing from the company’s CEO, Salakana expressed pride in the presence of such a facility, which not only focuses on manufacturing tech devices but also provides a significant number of job opportunities for women.
"This initiative is a key part of supporting President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts to attract local investments while also promoting gender equality within the workforce," she remarked.
Salakana emphasized that the visit was part of a learning experience for the ICTC team, as they sought to better understand how TanzTech integrates and assembles cutting-edge technology. The most impressive aspect, she noted, was the employment of women in such roles, especially as tomorrow marks International Women’s Day.
She added, "We commend you for providing training to young women on how to assemble advanced tech devices. As the ICT Commission, together with our Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, we stand ready to support you in contributing to the economic development of our nation."
Gurveer Hans, the CEO of TanzTech Electronics, shared insights into the recruitment process, revealing that over 120 applicants showed interest in the positions when announced. After conducting interviews, 60 were selected, with 90% of those hired being female high school graduates. These new recruits underwent a three-month training program on tech assembly before being employed.
Hans highlighted that the company specializes in assembling modern technology, including smartphones, advanced prepaid water meters, educational projectors, laptops, and various other devices. He expressed optimism about the future, stating that within three months, their products would be available on the market, with plans to open retail outlets in each region to make these affordable tech products accessible to a wider population.
