President Samia Makes New Appointments, Envoy Matinyi Assigned to Sweden
Dar es Salaam, March 25, 2025 — Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced a series of key government appointments and diplomatic postings, with Ambassador Mobhare Matinyi assigned to serve as the country’s envoy to Sweden.
Ambassador Matinyi, who formerly held the position of Government Spokesperson, was appointed ambassador on December 8, 2024, but had not been assigned a station until now.
The announcement was made in a statement issued Tuesday, March 25, 2025, by Presidential Communications Director Sharifa Nyanga. The statement, quoting Chief Secretary Ambassador Moses Kusiluka, detailed multiple new postings and leadership changes.
Among the newly assigned diplomats is Ambassador Hamad Khamis Hamad, who has been designated as Tanzania’s Ambassador to Mozambique.
In domestic appointments, President Samia has named Rachel Stephen Kasanda as the new District Commissioner for Masasi. She replaces Lauteri John Kanoni, whose appointment has been revoked.
Additionally, Professor Jafari Ramadhani Kideghesho has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Tanzania Wildlife and Conservation Fund. Meanwhile, CPA Ashraph Yusuph Abdulkarim has been appointed as the General Manager of the Kariakoo Market Corporation.
These appointments reflect the President’s continued effort to strengthen public service leadership and bolster Tanzania’s diplomatic representation abroad.
