NCCR Mageuzi to Announce Presidential Candidate on April 30

Dar es Salaam, February 24, 2025 – Political parties are intensifying their preparations for the upcoming general elections, with key players already signaling their intentions to run for top positions.

The ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has completed its selection process, confirming President Samia Suluhu Hassan as their presidential candidate during a special congress on January 19, 2025, in Dodoma. The vote, conducted by 1,924 delegates, resulted in unanimous support for her candidacy, securing 100% approval.

Alongside her nomination, CCM's Secretary-General, Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, was named as her running mate, and should the party triumph, he will assume the role of Vice President. In Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi was also confirmed as the presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, ACT Wazalendo's leader, Dorothy Semu, declared her intention to contest the presidency on January 16, 2025, in Dar es Salaam. In her announcement, Semu emphasized the need for new leadership to safeguard the nation’s interests, foster a robust economy, and promote transparency. “We can change the current state by collaborating to overcome challenges and strengthen our country's future,” Semu affirmed, declaring her readiness to face President Samia in the upcoming race.

In addition to Semu, ACT Wazalendo's Chairman and the First Vice President of Zanzibar, Othman Masoud Othman, revealed his candidacy for the Zanzibar presidency. Othman made the announcement on January 1, 2025, in Zanzibar, expressing his respect for the party’s procedures and his desire to represent ACT Wazalendo in the election.

NCCR Mageuzi's Strategy

The NCCR Mageuzi party is gearing up for its own presidential announcement. Florian Mbeo, the party’s Director of Organization and Administration, stated in a phone interview on Monday, February 24, 2025, that following a Central Committee meeting on February 18, 2025, the party has set April 30, 2025, as the official date for announcing its presidential candidate for both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

The announcement will coincide with the party’s General Assembly, where delegates will deliberate on the nomination of candidates for the presidency of both Tanzania and Zanzibar. Mbeo confirmed that April 30, 2025, will mark the day of the party's election congress.
