Police Explain Forceful Arrest of Suspect in Kibaha
Dar es Salaam – The police have clarified a viral video circulating online that shows a motorbike rider being forcefully arrested in the Maili Moja area of Kibaha, Pwani Region. According to a statement issued by the police on Saturday, February 22, 2025, the incident involved law enforcement officers detaining a suspect who had resisted arrest.
The young man in question, identified as Rajabu Hassan, is accused of engaging in criminal activities, primarily using his motorbike – commonly referred to as a "vishandu" – to commit crimes. These offenses include robbery and other illicit activities, often while riding a motorbike with either obscured or no registration plates.
"Video footage currently being shared on social media, depicting the arrest of a man on February 20, 2025, in Maili Moja, Pwani Region, shows police officers apprehending a suspect named Rajabu Hassan," the police statement reads.
Authorities explained that Hassan had been evading capture due to his involvement in several criminal incidents, particularly involving motorbike robberies where the vehicle's registration number was either altered or missing. On the day of his arrest, police pursued Hassan after he fled from their attempts to detain him. During the chase, his motorbike lacked a registration number. Despite fleeing, he was apprehended in the Maili Moja area after his motorbike was found again without a registration plate.
During the arrest, Hassan resisted and caused a disturbance, even after the officers identified themselves. However, law enforcement ultimately succeeded in capturing him and transporting him to the Kibaha Police Station, where he is being held for further legal proceedings regarding the charges against him.
The police have confirmed that Hassan's family is aware of his detention and is being kept informed about his current status at the police station.
