Majaliwa Applauds Religious Leaders' Role in Tanzania’s Growth

Majaliwa Highlights the Role of Religious Leaders in Tanzania’s Development and Peace

Dar es Salaam, March 1, 2025 – Tanzania's Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, has praised the significant role religious leaders play in advancing the nation's development and maintaining peace. Speaking at a national prayer event on February 28, 2025, at the Leaders Club in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, Majaliwa emphasized how religious institutions are collaborating with the government to provide essential social services, including schools, hospitals, and clean water, across the country.

He highlighted that the sermons delivered by religious leaders, which often admonish wrongdoing, contribute positively to fostering peaceful relations and strengthening the social fabric of society. "Their words of guidance, urging us to abandon evil and work hard, are essential in promoting peace and unity," Majaliwa said.

The national prayer event aimed to unite citizens from various regions in prayer for the nation and its leaders, especially President Samia Suluhu Hassan. Religious leaders, through their institutions, have been instrumental in encouraging the Tanzanian people to support the government and maintain national harmony.

Majaliwa also urged religious leaders and all citizens to remain steadfast in supporting the government, stressing the importance of peace, love, and solidarity in the country's continued progress. He acknowledged the immense spiritual responsibility of religious leaders, which plays a crucial role in shaping the daily lives of Tanzanians.

"Keep contributing to our nation's progress. Your dedication and faith in the government are unwavering," Majaliwa added.

Earlier, Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila expressed his concern over instances where one religious leader criticizes another, drawing a comparison to parents quarrelling in front of their children. "As a believer, I see such actions as driven by evil, not by God," he remarked, urging religious leaders to focus on preaching love and peace.

The national prayer event featured participation from various religious leaders, including prophets, priests, and pastors from diverse denominations, all of whom prayed for peaceful elections and the well-being of the people. Among the notable participants were Prophet Boniface Mwamposa, Prophet Clear Malisa, Minister Allen Siso, and Bishop Emmanuel, alongside gospel singers Rose Muhando, Bella Kombo, and Ambwene Mwasongwe.

As evening fell at the Leaders Club, participants reflected on the significance of the event, especially considering that 2025 is an election year. Joseph John, one of the attendees, expressed his belief that the prayers were timely, calling for peace during the election period. Justa Mwakangale added that it was a blessing for religious leaders from various faiths to unite with the public to pray for the nation.
