March 16, 2025
A Kenyan national, Margaret Nduta Macharia, 37, is set to be executed in Vietnam on Monday, March 17, 2025, after being convicted of drug trafficking. She was arrested in 2023 for attempting to smuggle two kilograms of cocaine into the country.
According to reports, Margaret stated that she had been given the illicit drugs by a Kenyan man identified only as John. She successfully passed through three major international airports—Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Kenya), Bole International Airport (Ethiopia), and Hamad International Airport (Qatar)—without detection before being apprehended in Vietnam.
During her trial, Margaret defended herself, claiming she was unaware that the package she was carrying contained narcotics. Despite her plea, she was found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging on March 6, 2025.
