DAZN Secures $1 Billion Deal for FIFA Club World Cup Rights

Los Angeles, USA – March 7, 2025:

As the FIFA Club World Cup transitions to a new format, participating teams are set to benefit from a significant boost in earnings, with over $1 billion allocated for broadcast rights.

This year’s tournament, set to take place in the United States this June, will see Manchester City and Chelsea among the 32 teams vying for the title. Both English clubs earned their spots by securing the UEFA Champions League titles in 2021 and 2023, respectively.

In an effort to enhance the prestige of the competition, FIFA has brokered a deal with DAZN, which will cover broadcast rights with a staggering $1 billion investment. This substantial amount is aimed at ensuring a fair payout to the teams involved and raising the tournament's profile globally.

Major Financial Incentives for Teams

While $1 billion may not seem like an extraordinary sum when compared to other major football tournaments, such as the UEFA Champions League—where clubs share around £2 billion—the unique nature of this payment lies in its timing. The tournament will feature fewer matches per team, with each side playing just three group-stage matches followed by up to four knockout games, totaling seven matches. This contrasts with the Champions League, where clubs can play as many as 13 games.

FIFA’s new financial structure also includes payments to teams not advancing to the final. While the exact amounts depend on performance, FIFA aims to ensure that all participants are compensated adequately, contributing to the increased prestige of the event.

In total, $2 billion has been allocated for the competition, including both operational costs and prize money. However, teams will not receive their share directly; instead, funds will be distributed through continental football federations. This means that teams from Africa, Asia, and other regions will be compensated by their respective football bodies, with some teams expected to earn more than others depending on their performance.

Broadcast and Sponsorship Deals

In addition to DAZN’s landmark agreement, FIFA has also secured sponsorships from global giants such as Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Chinese electronics company Hisense, and AB InBev. These partnerships are expected to further bolster the financial standing of the tournament.

Ticket Prices Drop Just Before Tournament

With only a few months remaining before the tournament kicks off, ticket prices have seen a sharp reduction. According to reports from the Daily Mail, lower-tier tickets for knockout stage games are now available for as little as $385, down from $526. Prices for semifinals tickets for home-team fans have also dropped from $526 to just $140, while the previously $892 final tickets are now available for just $300.

FIFA clarified that these price adjustments are not part of a discount strategy but rather a thank-you gesture for loyal fans who will travel to the U.S. for the tournament.

Record Prize for the Winner

The winner of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup stands to gain an impressive $90 million, almost twenty times the prize money from the previous edition, where the champions were awarded just $5 million. With 32 teams from around the world—12 from Europe, including heavyweights like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain—the competition is expected to be fierce.

However, the expanded format has also faced criticism due to the increased number of games that players will be required to play, raising concerns about player fatigue.
