Trump Suspends All U.S. Military Aid to Ukraine Following Dispute with Zelensky
In a significant development, U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the suspension of all military aid to Ukraine following a heated exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last week, a White House official confirmed on Monday.
The official stated that Trump has made it clear that his priority is peace. "We want our allies to contribute towards this goal as well. We are halting our assistance and reviewing it to ensure it supports a solution," the official remarked, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
The White House, however, has not specified the types or amounts of military assistance that will be suspended, nor has it provided a timeline for how long the suspension will last. Similarly, the Pentagon has refrained from offering additional details.
The Office of President Zelensky has not responded to Reuters' inquiries via the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington.
This move follows Trump's reversal of U.S. policies on Ukraine and Russia upon taking office in January, where he adopted a more amicable stance toward Moscow. The suspension of military aid comes after a tense confrontation between Trump and Zelensky at the White House last Friday, during which Trump accused Zelensky of failing to adequately appreciate U.S. support in the ongoing war with Russia.
