Ibrahima Kassory Fofana Receives Jail Sentence for Misuse of Funds

Guinea's Former Prime Minister Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Corruption

A special court in Guinea has sentenced the country's former Prime Minister, Ibrahima Kassory Fofana, to five years in prison after finding him guilty of corruption and the misappropriation of public funds. Fofana, who served as Prime Minister under President Alpha Condé's government, was also fined 2 billion Guinean francs, which is equivalent to approximately $230,000.

The court, located in the capital Conakry, convicted Fofana of misusing 15 billion Guinean francs (roughly $1.6 million) that had been allocated for social welfare projects, including efforts related to the COVID-19 pandemic during the previous administration.

Fofana is one of several officials from the ousted government who have faced prosecution in the special tribunal set up following the military coup that overthrew Condé's administration. These trials are part of a broader crackdown on economic sabotage and corruption within the country.
