Tanzanians Can Now Enter DRC Visa-Free, Confirms Government
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has officially lifted its visa requirement for Tanzanian nationals, a move confirmed by Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The policy came into effect on March 20, 2025, allowing Tanzanians to enter the DRC without the need for a visa.
This development marks a reciprocal gesture following Tanzania’s earlier decision to waive visa fees for DRC citizens, which was implemented shortly after the DRC joined the East African Community (EAC) on September 2, 2023. At that time, Tanzania removed the visa payment requirement in anticipation that the DRC would offer the same treatment to Tanzanian citizens.
“The Government of Tanzania considers the DRC’s decision a positive step towards strengthening regional integration,” the statement from the ministry read.
The DRC is a significant economic partner for Tanzania, particularly in the transport and logistics sector, where it heavily relies on Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam Port and the central railway line for exporting its goods.
This visa exemption is expected to significantly enhance bilateral trade and social exchanges between the two nations. It is seen as a strategic step towards deepening economic ties and facilitating the movement of people and goods within the region.
However, despite this progress, ongoing security challenges in eastern DRC remain a potential deterrent for many Tanzanians considering travel to the country. Should peace be restored in the region, it could unlock further economic and social opportunities.
