Tido Mhando Takes a Stand Against Unprofessional Media Practices
DAR ES SALAAM, March 3, 2025 – Dunstan Tido Mhando, Chairman of the Journalists’ Accreditation Board, has issued a strong statement declaring that the launch of the board signals the beginning of the end for unprofessional conduct in the media sector.
Speaking at the event in Dar es Salaam, Mhando emphasized his commitment, alongside fellow board members, to ensure that professionalism is upheld throughout the media industry. The board is determined to rigorously enforce the provisions laid out in the law that created it, aiming to raise the standards of journalism in Tanzania.
The launch ceremony, which was attended by a diverse group of media professionals, was officiated by Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, Minister for Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports. Gerson Msigwa, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information, was also present, along with other key stakeholders in the media sector.
The board, which was established under Section 12 of the Media Services Act (Chapter 229), is tasked with accrediting journalists in Tanzania. This move is seen as an essential step in addressing the challenges of unprofessionalism within the media.
During the launch, Minister Kabudi underscored the significance of the board in regulating journalism standards, ensuring ethical practices, and fostering professional development within the field. He highlighted the board’s role in empowering journalists, enabling them to enhance their skills and contribute meaningfully to the media landscape.
