The Citizen Rising Woman: A Platform for Empowering Women’s Economic Opportunities

Friday, March 7, 2025

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Dr. Doto Biteko, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, is set to attend as the guest of honor at the 5th edition of The Citizen Rising Woman conference tomorrow, Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Mlimani City Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam.

Dr. Biteko's participation underscores the government's commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment across various sectors.

This event, which unites leaders from both the private and public sectors, alongside professionals from diverse walks of life, aims to celebrate the resilience, achievements, and contributions of women in numerous industries.

This marks the fifth consecutive year of The Citizen Rising Woman, and this year’s theme, "Accelerate Her Impact," emphasizes the creation of an environment where women can thrive, lead, and inspire change.

Over the past two months, women from various professional fields have been sharing powerful stories of triumph and challenges, showcasing the hurdles they have overcome and the strategies they have used to achieve success.

Gender discrimination remains a significant barrier in many workplaces, preventing women from reaching their full potential. However, The Citizen Rising Woman has become a beacon of hope, empowering women to challenge social norms, advocate for equality, and amplify the voices of those who are often unheard.

By sharing personal stories and academic insights, The Citizen Rising Woman has built a support network that motivates future generations of women leaders to break barriers and define success on their own terms.

Addressing workplace gender disparities requires sustained collective effort from all stakeholders, and The Citizen Rising Woman offers a vital platform for advancing such discussions.

The event, which culminates the annual two-month campaign, will feature dynamic discussions focused on the key issues impacting women’s progress in the workplace.

This year’s panel discussions will include international leaders and influencers who will collectively share their perspectives on closing the gender gap and fostering sustainable development.

Notable speakers include Zuhura Muro, Senior Partner at Impact Leadership Tanzania; Jovitha Mlay, a gender and social inclusion expert from Enabel; Angelica Pesha, Chief Officer at Mixx by Yas; Katherine Gifford, Deputy Representative of UN Women Tanzania; and Mwamvita Makamba, Founder of MMConnect Africa.

The panel will be expertly moderated by Khalila Mbowe, Founder and CEO of Unleashed Africa Social Enterprises.

Edson Sosten, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, and Sustainability Manager at Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL), discussed the importance of the event, highlighting that it will not only serve as a platform for knowledge exchange but will also feature engaging learning sessions and activities designed to advance The Citizen Rising Woman’s goal of creating opportunities for women to succeed.

To enhance its influence and reach, this year’s edition of The Citizen Rising Woman was launched on February 5 in partnership with Crown Media, thus amplifying its impact and visibility.

A key strategy this year was the introduction of a weekly publication focusing on various sectors, ensuring that the stories of women from diverse fields are highlighted. Each edition has focused on a particular sector, from healthcare and law to banking, entertainment, and more, offering readers a deep dive into the journeys, experiences, and perseverance of women who have overcome barriers and thrived in their respective fields.

By providing this platform, The Citizen Rising Woman not only celebrates these successful women but also offers aspiring leaders valuable insights and motivation to chart their own paths to success.

The event continues to underscore the importance of supporting and uplifting women across all aspects of life.
