Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices, including attending mandatory safety courses and meetings, using the required personal protective equipment (PPE), and reporting incidents or accidents. Strict compliance with Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Policies, and other relevant guidelines is essential.
  • Conduct risk assessments such as Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA).
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical issues on a wide range of mining equipment including SANDVIK, CAT, and NORMET machines.
  • Coordinate tasks within the unit and communicate effectively with the supervisor.
  • Ensure all mobile equipment is maintained in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs for the national workforce and assess competencies.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety and taking immediate action in response to unsafe practices or situations.
  • Ensure full compliance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) repair protocols and safety training.
  • Complete all required training modules in the auto electrical and maintenance skills matrix.
  • Monitor electrical activities, eliminating inefficiencies and ensuring maintenance targets are met.
  • Support departmental tactical plans to achieve business objectives.
  • Manage the replacement and overhaul of equipment components when necessary.
  • Research and implement the latest technologies to improve auto electrical functions.
  • Perform general mechanical fitting, rubber lining, scaffolding, and rigging duties as required.
  • Regularly clean equipment and work areas to ensure they remain in good condition.
  • Conduct plant and steel structure inspections.
  • Complete work orders on time, providing feedback and creating notifications about tasks performed.
  • Dismantle defective parts using tools such as hoists, cranes, and hand tools, and assess parts for wear and tear.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies by monitoring stock levels and liaising with the supervisor to ensure timely replenishment.
  • Document and communicate team activities, discrepancies, and ongoing needs.
  • Responsible for handing over duties at the end of each shift.

Qualification Requirements

  • Secondary education
  • Technical/Vocational schooling or apprenticeship training, equivalent to FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or similar qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practices
  • Certification in air conditioning system repairs

Experience and Competencies

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an auto electrical maintenance role within the mining sector
  • Strong knowledge of auto electrical maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Proficient in safety standards related to equipment maintenance
  • Extensive experience with maintenance techniques and practices
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing air conditioning systems
  • Experience within the mining industry is essential
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform tasks effectively
  • Excellent time management and planning abilities
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in operating various tools and equipment safely
  • Able to perform safety inspections and recognize potential hazards
  • Good vision and the ability to distinguish between colors and symbols
