February 22, 2025, Mtama, Lindi Region
Land disputes in Mtama, Lindi Region, have seen a significant resolution with 27 out of 32 cases successfully settled, according to the legal aid campaign led by Mama Samia. The remaining five disputes have been referred to the appropriate authorities for further resolution.
This development was confirmed by Rockus Komba, the Coordinator of the Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign, during a community meeting in Mnolela village on February 21, 2025. Komba stated that the initiative had resolved land and family-related conflicts across six villages, with a focus on land rights and domestic issues.
"We have resolved 27 out of 32 land disputes, and the remaining five cases have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for resolution. I am confident that by the end of this campaign, all disputes in Mtama will be resolved," said Komba.
In addition to addressing land disputes, the Gender and Children’s Desk Officer for the Lindi Region, Joyce Kitesho, urged women to speak out against all forms of gender-based violence that threaten their well-being.
"I implore my fellow women not to turn a blind eye to any form of abuse that may jeopardize our lives. Let us report such incidents; we must not remain silent," Kitesho stated while educating the public on gender-based violence and marital conflicts.
Meanwhile, the residents of Mnolela expressed their gratitude to the government for providing legal assistance in their communities. They believe this support will go a long way in mitigating conflicts that often arise within their societies.
Zabibu Saidi, a resident of Mnolela, shared her thoughts on the campaign, emphasizing its potential to reduce persistent disputes, particularly those related to marriage.
"This campaign will help us, the people of Lindi, to reduce the frequent conflicts in our communities, such as marital disputes. I am very happy to see it on the list as many spouses suffer from domestic abuse," Saidi said.
The legal aid initiative in Mtama reflects a broader effort to address community conflicts and promote legal awareness among citizens, particularly in rural areas. It aims to empower individuals with the knowledge and resources to resolve disputes amicably and peacefully.
