Woman Mysteriously Disappears in Sirari, Family in Distress

 Geita | March 21, 2025

GEITA, TANZANIA – The family of Tatu Paulo, 46, a resident of Stamico in Katoro township, Geita District, is in turmoil following her unexplained disappearance in the Sirari area. Tatu has been missing since early March, raising serious concerns among relatives and prompting calls for an intensified police investigation.

Her husband, Yohana Zacharia, a well-known agricultural and livestock input supplier in Katoro, reported that his wife left their home on March 2, 2025, en route to Nzega. She was accompanied by a young man, reportedly assisting her in matters related to a potential engagement. The two were traveling in the family's private vehicle.

According to Yohana, the pair arrived safely in Nzega by evening and communicated their safe arrival to the family.

However, the situation took a troubling turn the following night. On March 3 at around 7 PM, Tatu called her husband, informing him that she was returning to Katoro but would not make it home as she had to divert to Sirari due to an issue involving her seized cargo.

“The next morning, around 9 AM on March 4, she called to confirm she had arrived in Sirari,” Yohana recounted to reporters. “Later that day, I tried reaching her again to follow up on the cargo issue, but her phone was switched off. I assumed perhaps she had called others, but no one had heard from her.”

Alarmed by the lack of communication, Yohana began reaching out to friends and relatives, only to find that no one had seen or heard from Tatu.

Determined to locate his wife, he traveled to Sirari and made inquiries at the local police station regarding her whereabouts and the alleged confiscated goods. However, authorities denied holding anyone or seizing any agricultural or livestock-related items.

“We then proceeded to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) office, but they too confirmed they had no record of her or any confiscated cargo,” Yohana said. “Even after crossing into Kenya to consult border police, we received the same response—no knowledge or information.”

Immigration officers similarly indicated they had no data or reports related to Tatu. Following the dead ends, Yohana returned to Geita and filed a formal report with the Regional Crime Officer (RCO), who has since initiated further investigations.

Tatu’s brother, Chacha William, voiced deep concerns over the family's safety fears.

“We worry that she may have been kidnapped or harmed,” he said. “We urge the government, especially the police, to intensify efforts to locate her and uncover the truth.”

Efforts to reach Tarime-Rorya Regional Police Commander, Mark Njera, for comment were made via phone. He responded through a text message, stating that he had not yet received any information regarding the incident.
