Wazir Jr Faces Tough Challenge in Iraq’s Top League
Striker Vows to Fight for Al Mina’a Amid Relegation Battle
Al Mina’a striker Wazir Jr Shentembo is navigating the intense competition of the Iraq Stars League, where his team is struggling to climb the table. Currently sitting in 16th place out of 20 teams, Al Mina’a has accumulated 25 points from 24 matches, with six wins, seven draws, and 11 losses.
Speaking to Mwanaspoti, Wazir Jr acknowledged the highly competitive nature of the league but expressed his determination to help the team improve its standing.
"The league is very competitive, and every team is fighting for positive results. I want to contribute every time I get a chance to play by scoring goals because that is my job," Wazir Jr stated.
The former Yanga SC forward, who featured for the Tanzanian giants during the 2020/21 season, recently signed a six-month contract with Al Mina’a. His addition is expected to boost the team’s attacking options as they battle to move away from the relegation zone.
Wazir Jr is not the only familiar face at Al Mina’a. He joins Congolese winger Tuisila Kisinda, another former Yanga SC star who played in Tanzania in the 2020/21 and 2022/23 seasons before returning to AS Vita in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The arrival of Wazir Jr means there are now two Tanzanian players competing in the Iraq Stars League. Simon Msuva, another Tanzanian international, currently plays for Al Talaba, where he has already scored seven goals this season.
As Al Mina’a continues to fight for survival, Wazir Jr remains focused on making an impact and delivering crucial goals that could help lift the team from the bottom half of the table.
