TASAF-Supported Kinyikani Health Centre Enhances Healthcare in Wete District

Zanzibar, February 27, 2025 – The Kinyikani Health Centre, a pivotal development funded by the Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF), has opened its doors to significantly improve healthcare access for the people of Wete District and neighboring communities.

In a recent address, the Kusini Pemba Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Mr. Amour Hamad Saleh, urged the local residents to actively safeguard the health centre's infrastructure, ensuring its durability and ongoing contribution to the community's healthcare needs. His call to action emphasized the importance of maintaining the facility for long-term use in delivering high-quality healthcare services.

Mr. Saleh, who also presented appreciation certificates to the committees responsible for overseeing the construction, stressed that the community’s involvement in upkeep is crucial for the sustained success of the facility. The total cost of constructing the Kinyikani Health Centre was 552 million Tanzanian shillings. The health centre includes essential outpatient care facilities, a maternal and child health building, and two staff houses.

“This centre is a vital addition to our district, making quality healthcare services more accessible to people who previously faced challenges in obtaining medical care,” Mr. Saleh remarked. “It is critical for both the local community and the management committee to protect this infrastructure to ensure it continues to benefit future generations.”

TASAF’s Director of Coordination, Ms. Haika Shaya, spoke on behalf of TASAF's Executive Director, Mr. Shedrack Mziray. She explained that TASAF remains committed to the government’s efforts in alleviating poverty and addressing gaps in essential services. By enhancing access to healthcare, education, and social services, TASAF enables economically disadvantaged households to improve their livelihoods and build human capital.

“The fund supports infrastructure development in communities lacking vital services, helping people gain access to the resources they need to thrive,” Ms. Shaya added.

TASAF’s second phase of its program allocated 3.1 billion Tanzanian shillings for the construction of 15 key infrastructure projects across sectors like education, healthcare, and water. As part of its 2023/24 financial year plan, TASAF is funding seven additional infrastructure projects in Pemba, totaling over 1.32 billion Tanzanian shillings, one of which is the Kinyikani Health Centre.

Amour Khamis Amour, the Secretary of the Community Supervisory Committee, expressed gratitude for TASAF’s contribution to improving social services. "This project is incredibly important to us, and we are committed to its maintenance for the benefit of both current and future generations," he said.
