Power Outage Schedule for Dar es Salaam, Pwani, and Zanzibar: Check Your Area
Dar es Salaam, February 21, 2025 – The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) has announced plans to improve its infrastructure in the Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and Pwani regions, outlining a scheduled power outage to facilitate these upgrades.
The power interruptions will take place from Saturday, February 22 to Friday, February 28, 2025, as part of Tanesco’s ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery and ensure more efficient power distribution.
Key Areas Affected
During this period, certain areas within Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and Pwani will experience power cuts at different intervals. This scheduled disruption aims to provide a window for much-needed improvements to the 220kV transmission, step-down, and distribution substation located at Ubungo in Dar es Salaam.
Tanesco will install a large new transformer with a capacity of 300 MVA, designed to meet the growing electricity demands in these regions. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to alleviate the current strain on the power grid, caused by an increase in electricity consumers.
These upgrades are essential for addressing the longstanding issue of overloading at the existing substation, which has been struggling to keep pace with the rising demand for electricity. The initiative will help improve the reliability and sustainability of power supply, reducing the frequency of outages in the future.
For detailed information on specific areas affected by the outages, residents are advised to refer to the official schedule released by Tanesco.
