In a historic milestone for Tanzania’s judicial system, President Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to inaugurate the new headquarters of the Judiciary of Tanzania in the capital city, Dodoma. The move marks a significant advancement aimed at strengthening the country’s justice delivery infrastructure.

The launch ceremony will feature the unveiling of three major judicial projects, notably the towering new Judiciary Headquarters—a landmark development both in scale and significance.

The nine-storey complex, encompassing an area of 63,244 square meters, stands as the largest judiciary headquarters in Africa and ranks as the sixth largest of its kind globally.

According to the Chief Court Administrator, Professor Elisante Ole Gabriel, the building has been constructed entirely using domestic tax revenues, with a total investment of TSh 129.7 billion.

The expansive structure brings together three branches of the judiciary: the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, and the High Court, with administrative offices positioned centrally between them.

“For the first time since independence, Tanzania’s Judiciary will have an official headquarters. Previously, the facility in Dar es Salaam did not hold that status,” noted Professor Gabriel.

He further highlighted that the building is engineered for longevity—expected to last over a century—and is equipped with state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems. These include artificial intelligence tools, robotic visitor assistants, and a designated helipad.

“This headquarters features one of the world’s most advanced monitoring rooms, ranking second globally in terms of technological sophistication. It will serve as the central node for real-time case monitoring and significantly boost judicial security,” he explained.

In addition to the Judiciary Headquarters, President Samia will also inaugurate the new six-storey headquarters for the Judicial Service Commission, built at a cost of TSh 14.3 billion, as well as 48 modern residences for judges, valued at TSh 42.3 billion.

These developments are seen as pivotal in modernizing Tanzania’s judicial framework and enhancing the efficiency, accessibility, and credibility of the country's legal system.
