LONDON, ENGLAND – Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Ramires has left fans in disbelief after resurfacing with a noticeably transformed appearance that rendered him nearly unrecognizable.
The 37-year-old, once a dynamic force in Chelsea’s midfield, returned to the public eye during a visit to the club’s Cobham training ground, where he donned The Blues' gear once again—this time for a legends' match featuring several former teammates and icons.
Ramires, who played 251 matches for Chelsea between 2010 and 2016, scored 34 goals and provided 17 assists during his tenure. He joined the club from Benfica in a £17 million transfer and famously wore the No. 7 jersey.
Among his most iconic contributions was his unforgettable goal against Barcelona in the 2012 UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg at Camp Nou. Ramires scored in first-half stoppage time with a delicate chip over goalkeeper Victor Valdés, helping Chelsea level the aggregate score. Later, Fernando Torres sealed the result in the dying minutes, sending Chelsea to the final. The club went on to defeat Bayern Munich and lift the Champions League trophy for the first time in its history.
Despite receiving a yellow card that ruled him out of the final, Ramires’ role in that campaign remains etched in Chelsea folklore.
Having retired from professional football in 2020 with Brazilian club Palmeiras, Ramires has largely stayed out of the spotlight—until now. His recent reappearance drew strong reactions from fans on social media due to his changed appearance.
One fan commented, “Honestly, who is this?” Another wrote, “Unrecognizable!” while others said, “The legend looks so different now,” and “Ramires has really changed.”
The Brazilian joined fellow Chelsea greats John Obi Mikel, Claude Makelele, William Gallas, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, and Roberto Di Matteo—who returned in a coaching capacity—for the legends’ gathering.
