Pope Francis Discharged from Rome Hospital After Health Scare
Pope Francis has been discharged from a hospital in Rome following a period of medical treatment. The 88-year-old pontiff had been admitted to the Gemelli Hospital on February 14, where he remained under close observation for over five weeks.
On Sunday, prior to his release, the Pope made a brief public appearance from his hospital window, offering blessings to the faithful — his first public gesture since his admission. Just minutes after this moment, he was formally discharged by his medical team.
According to Dr. Sergio Alfieri, one of the physicians overseeing his care, Pope Francis experienced "two very critical episodes" during his stay, during which his life was reportedly at serious risk. Although his condition has improved, and he is no longer suffering from pneumonia, doctors emphasize that he has not yet fully recovered.
He will require at least two months of rest at the Vatican to recuperate, and his return to official duties will depend on how his health progresses in the coming weeks. Medical professionals remain cautiously optimistic, noting that if his recovery continues as expected, the Pope could resume his responsibilities soon.
