The 2025 Trace Awards held in Zanzibar on February 26th proved to be a monumental occasion, marking a significant celebration of Africa's music industry. The prestigious event brought together some of the continent's most celebrated artists to honor the diverse and vibrant music scene, with Afrobeats, Amapiano, and other African genres taking center stage.

Tanzania, the host country, saw its homegrown talent, Diamond Platnumz, claiming the coveted Best Global African Artist award. Known for his dynamic fusion of Bongo Flava with Afrobeats, Amapiano, and pop influences, Diamond has become a global superstar. His win at the Trace Awards further reinforces his powerful influence across Africa and the world, cementing his place as a leading figure in the international music scene.

In a night full of remarkable moments, Tanzanian singer Zuchu received the Zanzibar Award, a recognition of her extraordinary impact on the local music industry. Zuchu’s distinctive voice and captivating performances have helped shape the East African music landscape, making her one of the region’s most influential artists.

Tanzania’s success continued as Nandy was named Best Tanzanian Artist. The talented musician, known as the 'African Princess,' has consistently topped the charts with her blend of traditional African music and contemporary production, a testament to her talent and enduring presence in the music industry.

Beyond Tanzania, the event highlighted Africa’s global reach and musical diversity, with significant wins for artists across the continent. South African duo Titom & Yuppe received Song of the Year for their infectious track ‘Tshwala Bam,’ which became a global dance anthem. Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema had a standout night, winning both Album of the Year for Heis and Best Male Artist, further solidifying his position as a leading figure in Afrobeats.

South Africa’s Tyla was honored as Best Female Artist, her innovative sound making waves worldwide. The Best Collaboration Award went to the Ivorian duo Tam Sir & Team Paiya for their hit ‘Coup du Marteau,’ while Nigerian gospel sensation Mercy Chinwo earned the Best Gospel Artist title.

The awards also celebrated regional diversity with a series of regional accolades: Bien (Kenya) won Best East African Artist, Josey (Ivory Coast) claimed Best French-Speaking Artist, Chelsea Dinorath (Angola) took Best Portuguese-Speaking Artist, Didi B (Ivory Coast) won Best Hip Hop Artist, and DJ Moh Green (Algeria) was named Best DJ.
