Dar es Salaam Voter Registration: Act Now Before Deadline
INEC urges Dar es Salaam residents to register early for the voter roll before the March 23 deadline. Avoid long queues and ensure your right to vote.

Dar es Salaam Residents Urged to Register Early for Voter Roll
March 20, 2025
Residents of Dar es Salaam have begun registering and updating their details in the Permanent Voter Register as part of the ongoing electoral process. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has emphasized the importance of timely participation and urged eligible citizens to take advantage of the registration period before the March 23, 2025, deadline.
The exercise, which commenced on Monday, marks the final phase of the nationwide voter registration initiative. With 29 regions having successfully completed the process, Dar es Salaam remains the last region to finalize its voter roll update.
Commitment to a Well-Organized Electoral Process
INEC Chairperson, Justice Jacobs Mwambegele of the Court of Appeal, confirmed that the commission is now in its 13th phase of the registration drive. He reiterated the significance of this initiative in strengthening democracy, as it ensures that all eligible Tanzanians are prepared for the upcoming General Elections.
Registering or updating voter details is a fundamental responsibility for every citizen who meets the eligibility criteria. INEC continues to call upon residents of Dar es Salaam to utilize the designated days to complete this vital process.
Avoiding Last-Minute Rush
Despite continuous efforts to facilitate a smooth registration process, there remains a tendency among some citizens to delay participation until the final days. This habit often leads to unnecessary congestion at registration centers, resulting in frustration and logistical challenges.
To mitigate this issue, INEC strongly encourages residents who have no valid reason for postponement to visit registration centers at the earliest opportunity. Doing so will help prevent long queues and potential service delays in the final hours.
A Democratic Responsibility
Updating or enrolling in the voter register is a constitutional right and a civic duty. The government has allocated substantial resources to ensure the success of this initiative, making it imperative for all eligible citizens to support this democratic process.
Residents are urged to remind and motivate their peers to complete their registration in a timely manner. With an expected 643,420 new voter registrations in Dar es Salaam—an 18.7% increase from the current 3,427,917 registered voters—early participation is essential to achieving the commission’s goals without undue strain on the system.
INEC remains committed to a fair and transparent registration process and calls upon every qualified voter to seize this opportunity to make their voice count in the forthcoming elections.
