Martin Ødegaard Shines Again as Arsenal Edges Chelsea 1-0
LONDON, ENGLAND – Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard once again proved to be a pivotal figure against Chelsea, orchestrating a crucial goal in the Gunners' hard-fought 1-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
The Norwegian playmaker delivered a precise corner, which was met by Mikel Merino, who expertly headed the ball into the net. This assist marked Ødegaard’s fifth against Chelsea in the Premier League, making him the Arsenal player with the most assists against a single opponent in the league’s history.
Prior to this, Ødegaard was level with Arsenal legends Cesc Fàbregas and Dennis Bergkamp, both of whom had four assists against Chelsea in their Premier League careers. However, this latest contribution has cemented his place above them, further highlighting his impact in high-stakes encounters.
Despite his impressive record, Ødegaard still has a long way to go to challenge Ryan Giggs’ all-time Premier League assist record against Chelsea. The Manchester United icon managed nine assists in 31 league appearances against the Blues. In contrast, Ødegaard has faced Chelsea only eight times in the league since joining Arsenal—yet remains unbeaten in those encounters, having scored twice and assisted five times, directly contributing to seven goals.
So far this season, Ødegaard has been instrumental for Arsenal, scoring 13 goals across 32 appearances in all competitions. His contributions have been crucial in helping the North London club reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the second consecutive season. After overcoming PSV in the Round of 16, Arsenal now prepares for a highly anticipated showdown against Real Madrid in the last eight.
