Credit Risk Officer Job Opening at Equity Bank Tanzania

Equity Bank Tanzania Limited is inviting applications for a Credit Risk Officer position, based in Dar es Salaam. This full-time role is housed within the Risk Department and is integral to safeguarding the financial health of the bank's credit portfolio.

Key Role Objective

The primary responsibility of the Credit Risk Officer is to uphold the quality of the bank’s credit portfolio. This is achieved by ensuring compliance with internal credit governance structures, conducting accurate classification of credit assets, and facilitating proper capital allocation. The officer will also play a vital role in identifying potentially impaired loans at an early stage and coordinating remediation efforts to mitigate financial risk.

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform in-depth reviews of the loan portfolio to identify early signs of credit deterioration.

  • Ensure accurate classification of loans and verify that provisions for loan losses are adequate.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of underwriting controls and collateral management practices.

  • Conduct portfolio testing, including stress tests and vintage analysis, to assess credit health.

  • Prepare and disseminate credit risk management reports for internal stakeholders.

Required Knowledge and Expertise

  • Deep understanding of credit governance frameworks and banking operations.

  • Strong grasp of risk management practices and mitigation strategies.

  • Familiarity with Bank of Tanzania (BOT) prudential guidelines.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of internal bank policies and operational systems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other analytical tools.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of one year of experience in the banking sector is required.
